What do you do in your spare time?
The beautiful and picturesque Banff is nestled just about an hour and a half away West of Calgary on the Trans-Canada Highway. Virtually a playground for those who want to escape the everyday hustle of life, and enjoy nature at its finest. If this sounds […]
So you might ask, what are the top places to visit in Canada? Well, we’ll try to answer that in this post. We’ve narrowed it down to five so we’re not stretching the truth about places you must visit. So let’s get started. Banff and […]
The sun was nice enough to come out and visit us today, so we decided to go outdoors and get some fresh air, and a few snaps. We only had a few hours, so we made a quick trip to Glovertown, Newfoundland. Just about 20 minutes from here. Two things come to mind when you are talking about Glovertown. The Old Mill, and Ken Diamond Memorial Park, which is where we went.
First up, we decided to visit the Old Mill. Its located just a minute or two from the Salvation Army Church on main street, up Angle Brook Road. It really wouldn’t be worth the visit to Glovertown if you didn’t visit this site.
This awesome structure was built in 1921, by the Terra Nova Sulphite Company. It is sort of located in the middle of nowhere, so why was it built there? There are two very good reasons, its close to the salt water, and to the Terra Nova River. Which would have been used to float the timber down to the pulp mill, and secondly, they could also generate electricity from the river.
However, the mill never did get off the ground. The owners ran into financial troubles, and it went bust. So, that’s what you see today, a graffiti filled shell of a building. If you go to visit this site, beware, its almost 100 years old. We don’t advise that you go inside or too close due to falling debris.
We had a good time out and about the mill, and took some nice photos. At least the local teens and artists have a canvas now for their artwork. However, we couldn’t spend all day here, so we decided to explore around, and that’s when we came across the Terra Nova River.
Nestled right behind the Old Mill, as locals refer to it, is the Terra Nova River. An amazing place to go for a swim during the summer, or an ideal place to take in a wonderful view of a wide and powerful river, which is what we did. Be warned, however, if you do go swimming here, stick close to the shores because the currents can drag you away.
After taking in some of the scenery here, and taking a few photos, we decided to hop in the car again and head towards Ken Diamond Memorial Park.
Ken Diamond Memorial Park was established in 1996 as a permanent memorial to 40’s and 50’s local business icon, Ken Diamond. There is roughly 4 kilometres of meticulously groomed trail, that’s surrounded by brooks, streams, and wetland. As well as the various flora and fauna that goes with that type of environment. It is the ideal place to take a walk with your loved ones on a sunny day.
That concluded our time in Glovertown. It was time to go back home, and it was the perfect way to end the day. Feel free to look back frequently, as summer approaches. We’re guaranteed to have more posts and pictures for your reading a viewing. An don’t forget.
Life is Sweet

Of course, a trip to the Eastport Peninsula wouldn’t be complete without a visit to Salvage. With a population under 300, there can’t be a lot of things to do. However, the whole Eastport Peninsula is that way. If you are traveling that way, your […]
